Q&A ICD-10 Proficency Test

So glad that so many of us have passed our ICD-10 Proficiency exams..but is it true that if you have not taken it yet that AAPC is allowing until the beginning of Feb. to take the exam? Has anyone else heard this? Joann

Yes, this is on the web page at https://www.aapc.com/icd-10/icd-10-proficiency-assessment.aspx - you have to click on (in the blue background area) "Read more" to see it.

NOTICE:
to ensure employer's continued confidence in a credential holder's ability to accurately code for current code sets, and to reinforce the high standards set by our certifications, aapc members holding CPC®, CPC-A, CIC®, COC™, COC-A, CPC-P®, CPC-I®, CRC®, CPMA®, or a coding specialty (excluding CIRCC®), must demonstrate proficiency in ICD-10-CM through one of the two methods (options) outlined below by December 31, 2015 in order to maintain their credential(s).

Those failing to demonstrate proficiency by 12/31/2015 will have their credentials suspended until successful ICD-10-CM proficiency demonstration. Those failing to demonstrate by February 2nd will have their credentials revoked. Newly certified members who obtained certification in November or December of 2015 will have until February 29th for ICD-10-CM proficiency demonstration.
